“The Handler” is a 10 minute short film tracking Jay Yunos, a 14-year old Malay boy who works in the dark alleys of Geylang assisting both the pimps and the prostitutes as they solicit customers. Jay grows a deep affection for one of the working girls Vel, a sassy 25-year old whose better days of working the streets has past her. When Vel takes decisive measures to murder an abusive client, it is Jay who makes a calculated decision to take the wrap for the crime. Follow Jay’s compelling decent in the darkest corners of Singapore. The Handler is a story wrenched from the underbelly of society where the sex trade is flourishing and lucrative – it is a tale of lust, a tale of love but must importantly a tale of humanity.
